Wireless Charging Builds an “Invisible Defense Line” for Coal Mine Safety Production
In the complex and harsh underground working environment of coal mines, factors such as high dust, high humidity, high-frequency equipment vibration, and tunnel friction and collision constantly test the power supply safety of mining equipment. Traditional wired power supply and plug-in charging modes have inherent shortcomings: long-term cable wear and aging, connector oxidation and loosening, and electric sparks generated by manual plugging and unplugging can easily cause major safety accidents such as electrical leakage, short circuits, and gas ignition. They not only increase the probability of equipment failure and downtime, but also constantly threaten the lives and safety of underground workers, making them a core pain point constraining the safety upgrade of smart mines. In contrast, mining explosion-proof wireless charging technology, relying on the principle of non-contact over-the-air power transmission, completely eliminates vulnerable components such as cables and plugs. It has the core advantages of no sparks, zero leakage, high protection, and maintenance-free operation, fundamentally eliminating the safety hazards of traditional power supply modes. It has become a key new technology for coal mines to achieve intrinsically safe production and has now been deployed at scale by major domestic mining groups, with outstanding practical results.

As the core equipment for underground personnel and material transport, mine cages have traditionally relied on trailing cables and sliding contact lines for power supply. During repeated lifting and lowering, cables are repeatedly stretched, bent, and rubbed, making them highly susceptible to sheath damage, cable breakage, and contact sparking. This not only requires frequent shutdowns for inspection and replacement—with quarterly maintenance work affecting mine production schedules—but also poses long-term explosion-proof safety hazards. In response to the power supply safety pain points of auxiliary shaft cages, a large domestic mining group completed an intelligent upgrade, fully phasing out the old trailing cable power supply system and adopting a standardized complete mining explosion-proof wireless charging solution. During operation, the equipment has no physical contact and no exposed conductive points; the cage can automatically sense and recharge when it stops at a designated position, with zero sparks and zero leakage throughout the process. After the upgrade, hidden hazards related to cage power supply were completely eliminated, the equipment failure rate dropped significantly, and power-supply-related maintenance workload was reduced by 90%. The periodic production shutdowns for cable replacement were eliminated, greatly improving continuous production efficiency while ensuring underground transport safety.
As smart mine construction accelerates, intelligent equipment such as underground inspection robots, environmental monitoring devices, and emergency communication terminals is becoming widely used. The low efficiency and high risk of traditional manual charging have become increasingly prominent. A core coal mine under Shandong Energy Group took the lead in deploying an explosion-proof wireless charging system, equipping 12 routinely deployed inspection robots with dedicated wireless charging base stations to enable automated, unmanned recharging. After 18 months of uninterrupted underground practical operation, charging efficiency remained stable above 83%. Compared with traditional wired charging, charging stability and environmental adaptability improved significantly. At the same time, safety accidents and equipment downtime caused by charging both fell to zero. The robots can rely on charging base stations deployed along the tunnels to autonomously align and recharge during inspection intervals, without the need for manual underground operations for charging or battery swapping. This greatly reduces the frequency of personnel going underground and builds a solid underground safety defense line across personnel, equipment, and power supply.

Safety production is the lifeline of the coal mining industry. Traditional mine safety models mostly rely on manual inspections and passive protection, with low fault tolerance and significant risks. The application of wireless charging technology is driving a new transformation in coal mine safety management from “post-event remediation and passive explosion prevention” to “pre-event prevention and proactive safety.” With core advantages such as IP67 or higher dustproof, waterproof, and explosion-proof protection ratings, no wiring, maintenance-free operation, and high adaptability, it perfectly suits various high-risk underground operation scenarios and completely solves the industry challenges of unsafe power supply, high operation and maintenance costs, and low operating efficiency for intelligent mining equipment. In the future, as technology continues to iterate and application scenarios continue to expand, wireless charging will fully cover all categories of intelligent equipment in underground monitoring, transport, inspection, emergency response, and other areas, continuously empowering the safe, intelligent, and efficient transformation and upgrading of the coal mining industry and building a solid cornerstone of safe power supply for smart mine construction.
